Kytice

In 2019, Míla was approached by Michael Tate of the London publishing house Jantar to create the cover for the English version of Karel Jaromír Erben’s Kytice. Míla’s inspiration was the ballad The Golden Spinning Wheel, and the resulting cover art was such a success that she was commissioned to illustrate the individual ballads. Although she deals with mystery in her work, she refrained from illustrating the at-times-horrific stories from Kytice descriptively and instead tried to capture the mood they convey. She felt part of the woods, ponds, and graveyards that permeated the stories and wanted to convey that feeling to the viewer.
